Gorgeous Long Furlong Barn……
ong Furlong Barn belongs to the 4th generation Jenkin family, who have farmed the surrounding countryside since 1912.
Long Furlong barn was built in 1880 in the tradition of a medieval Tithe Barn. Noted as one of a few of these designs by English Heritage, The barns are now a grade 2 listed building.
The Granary was historically a threshing barn and threshing the corn crop by hand continued to be the predominant way of processing the crop into the 19th century.
The sheaves of corn were beaten with a flail to separate the grain from the straw, one of the reasons why our Granary has very large doors!
The Cartshed was used for the dry and secure storage of grain after it has been threshed and winnowed. The grain pit can still be seen in the Cartshed today, preserved by the family when the barns were renovated.
The Granary is a stunning wedding reception venue. The Medieval Tithe Style barn is noted of only a few in Sussex providing a real wow factor!
